Whoops, looks like something went wrong message

To see the actual error, there're two options:

1 Check log

Open the log file at /local/app/storage/logs/larvel.log to see if there're errors.

2 Turn on debugging

Open /local/app/config/production/app.php or if this file doesn't exist /local/app/config/app.php. At the top of the file change 'debug' => false, to 'debug' => true, and refresh the page that showed the error. You now should see a more meaningful error message.

Be right back! message after updating

To get rid of this message, delete the file /app/storage/meta/down.

Then check the log file in the /app/storage/logs directory to see what went wrong. Common scenarios are a missing PHP ZipArchive library and no permissions for script user to overwrite files.

Double check your app key

Make sure your key (/local/app/config/production/app.php) only contains alphanumeric characters (a-z A-Z 0-9). If there're other characters (also for example - or _) unexpected errors all throughout the system can occur.

Error when registering a new account

When a user registers a new account, an activation mail is sent. When you get an error after clicking Create new account, this is most likely because the email settings aren't configured properly. Please open the file /local/app/config/production/mail.php and make sure the settings are correct. If you're not sure, ask your mail or hosting provider.

I get an error like "Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '['"

This is most likely because you have PHP <= 5.3 installed. The system requires PHP >= 5.5 and 5.6 is recommended. This can also be verified with the requirements check file above.

I get a 404 - Page not found

There're a couple of possible reasons for this:

1 .htaccess is missing

Some FTP clients ignore files starting with a dot (.). Please make sure the .htaccess file in the root exists. And make sure its exact name is .htaccess.

If you're on a Mac, make sure hidden files are visible.

2 Apache mod_rewrite

Apache mod_rewrite isn't enabled or installed. You can check this with the requirements file above.

3 RewriteBase

Some servers require RewriteBase in the .htaccess file. In that case, it should look like this:

<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
    <IfModule mod_negotiation.c>
        Options -MultiViews

    RewriteEngine On
    RewriteBase /

    # Redirect Trailing Slashes...
    RewriteRule ^(.*)/$ /$1 [L,R=301]

    # Handle Front Controller...
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
    RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
    RewriteRule ^ index.php [L]
